These are high quality, medical grade N95 masks. The bands strap behind the head and neck--rather than ears--to create a much tighter seal. N95 masks that strap behind the ears are not as effective because the seal isn’t as tight. Ear-strap masks can also be painful from the constant pressure on the back of the ears, where these ones offer a much more comfortable fit. The adjustable nose guard makes the seal even more effective, which is a bonus to those who wear glasses (annoying lens fogging is kept to a minimum with these masks). The one downside is that the seal is so tight that prolonged use can make breathing difficult. Individuals who work in strenuous environments—where heart rate and breathing are increased—may want to consider something else.
